Hakka Collection – Permanent Exhibition Of A Classic Collection

The Taiwan Hakka Museum has been continuously collecting Hakka artifacts from all over since 2016. As of 2018, it has been taking on the burden of gathering and preserving classic artifacts by following the guidelines to rebuild repository facilities and draw up an enrollment plan for collections. To date, the Taiwan Hakka Museum has collected more than 1,500 items. This display of artifacts is set up as a permanent exhibition. Classic cultural and historical relics have been picked out from the collection so they, and the process of their research and collection, can be shared with the public.

Themed on the Hakka people from Taiwan and all over the world, the Taiwan Hakka Museum aims to pass on and preserve assets from the Hakka culture. Curated and centered on the collection strategy of the Taiwan Hakka Museum, the content of this exhibition sets out rich period Hakka pieces and reflects the collection management policy through the three major themes of “the story of artifacts”, “the journey of artifacts”, and “retrospect and prospect”. In respect to “the story of artifacts”, classic antiques of the museum’s collection are put on display, subdivided into the three aspects of economy, society, and culture. The exhibits include the broadsword of the Prime Minister of Liudui Lai Xiong-Fei, the Wen Kui plaque of Chiu Feng-Chia, the eave ornaments of Penang Tanjong Tokong Thai Pak Koong Temple, Sino-Mauritian’s Chinese Daily New, the red examination paper and crown of Jinshi (the highest and final degree in the imperial examination in Imperial China) Chiang Chang-Jung, the building units and elements of Peng Chao-Ho’s ancestral temple, Huang Chuan’s literary manuscripts, Chuang Tsai-Hsiang’s Bayin handschrift, the photography equipment of Zhonggang River, and other classic period pieces.

With regard to “the journey of artifacts”, the journey encompasses practical experience from enrollment, registration, and preservation, to management, maintenance, and utilization. When we consider “retrospect and prospect”, collaborations and exchanges between the Taiwan Hakka Museum and local communities, museums and academic units at home and abroad are displayed in the exhibition. It is hoped that through the rich diversity of the Taiwan Hakka Museum’s collection, visitors can explore the cultural traditions and artifacts of the Hakka people in more depth.
