The 59th Liugdui Hakka Games kicks off, welcoming everyone to experience the charm of Liugdui

The highly anticipated 59th Liugdui Hakka Games is set to take place in Linluo Township, Pingtung County, on March 9 and 10. Preceding the main event, some competitions including marathons and scooter races will commence early at Linluo Elementary School on Feb. 24 and 25. The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 20 and will be attended by esteemed guests, including Magistrate of Pingtung County Chou Chun-mi, Hakka Culture Development Center Director-General Ho Chin-liang, Mayor of Linluo Township Chung Ching-ping, Chief Secretary of the Hakka Affairs Commission, Kaohsiung City, Chung Ping-kuang, Director of the Department of Hakka Affairs, Pingtung County Government, LI Ming-Tsung, Pingtung County legislators Chang Chen-liang, Li Shih-gan, Mayor of Shinpi Township Pan He-yuan, Mayor of Gaushu Township Liang Jheng-han, along with representatives from various townships in Kaohsiung and Pingtung as well as former athletes from the Liugdui Sports Games Feng Ching-hung, Ho Meng-hsun and representatives from Linluo Township.

The sports event representing the loyalty and spirit of Liugdui is akin to a relay race each year, with each generation passing on the baton to ensure the continuity of Liugdui culture. There is not only a focus on achieving excellence but also opportunities for mutual sharing, growth, and learning among communities. It is hoped that through the participation of the younger generations and the enthusiastic support of residents from various townships in Liugdui, the event will become even more exciting.

The Liugdui Hakka Games, with its 59-year history, is known as the "Mini-Olympics of the Dawu Mountain " and is the longest-running local sports event in Taiwan. Each year, the festival is held in rotation by the six townships of Liugdui (Qiandui, Houdui, Zuodui, Ludui, Zhongdui, and Xianfengdui). This year, it is hosted by Linluo Township in Qiandui. The press conference began with a performance by the Qilin Dance Troupe from Linluo Township, showcasing the spirit of the Hakka Olympics in Liugdui. The event aims to encourage the further development of sports in Liugdui and unite Hakka youths through sports activities. This not only enhances physical fitness but also promotes the inheritance and prosperity of the century-old Hakka spirit.

The marathon is open to nationwide participants, with an anticipated turnout of over 2,000 people. Throughout the event, there will also be activities such as historical site tours and bazaar, aiming to showcase the unique characteristics and hospitality of Linluo Township and inviting people of all ages to participate.
