(Let’s tramp the gold apple snails away from the field)

The tramping (weeding) of Luidui Hakka Cultural Park Farming School activity is coming tomorrow morning (April 13). If you don't want to miss the Hakka traditional farming, the deep environmental education guide or the introduction of special ancient farming tools, you must come and join us!

In Luidui Ecological Island, rice was just transplanted on the 9th of last month. After several days of good weather, weeds and snails were growing and thriving together with the rice seedlings. At this area, we insisted to plant with the non-toxic and friendly natural farming method and to use the traditional farming method in Luidui “Tramping” to get rid of the threat of weeds and snails, which means to remove weeds with the feet in Hakka. It is a traditional weeding method in which the farmer holds the bamboo poles to support the body and tramps the weeds into the soil with the feet; Hakka had this special farming method because in the past in Luidui, Hakka women used to hold a bamboo pole with one hand, and to hold a umbrella with the other hand to take care of the baby. The way they were standing was to for them to look around whether there were any foreign invading enemies.

In this activity, we will lend the participants oil paper umbrellas to take photos, so that they can repeat the authentic tramping of Hakka ancestors. This activity allows the people to experience not only the spirit of Hakka ancestors, but also the wisdom that they were avoiding excessive fertilization and pesticides and kept friends with the land.

The next activity of Liudui Hakka Cultural Park Farming School will be scarecrow making, in which the participants can actually make a personalized scarecrow. It will be the most popular theme for parents and children to sign up. People who are interested people can follow the Facebook group of Liudui Hakka Cultural Park closely.
