The Hakka Cultural Development Center of the Hakka Affairs Council will hold the “Hakka Power 2019 Liudui Hakka Village Marathon” focusing on Hakka on October 20th at Meinong and Liudui Districts of Kaohsiung City. As such, a press conference was held at the Nanmen Park of the National Taiwan Museum. On the scene, there were prestigious guests gathering, and what’s more, more than a dozen chiefs of villages from the Meinong District came here to start the grand Taiwan sport event.

This event is the first national marathon focusing on "Hakka ethnic group" and "Hakka culture". Therefore, strong Hakka elements are integrated into competition events, competition route and performance activities. The event is divided into Group of Hakka Village Energy (42.195 kilometers, registration fee NTD $800), Group of Running Around Hakka Village (25 kilometers, registration fee NTD $600) and Group of Happy Hakka Village (5 kilometers, registration fee NTD$300). The contestants finishing the running will get clothing, sport drawstring bag, souvenirs of Meinong agricultural products, and a NTD$60 consumption coupon at the on-site small farmers market. Before the night of the event, we invite the famous musician Lin Sheng Hsiang, along with his excellent band, to perform, hoping to make the players enjoy the musical feast, and then prepare for the event of the following day filled with Hakka village style.

In his speech, the Minister of Hakka Affairs Council, Li Yung Te stated,”You Diu is selected for this event. The route passes through major historical attractions of Meinong and Liugui, such as Shihzihtou Irrigation System, Meinong Water Bridge, Meinong Old Bridge, East Gate Tower, Lecture Room, Meinong Word-worshipping Paper Incinerator, as well as natural scenery such as Meinong Lake, the foot of Mt. Meinong, and Xinwei Forest Park. Souvenirs, supply stations and market activities are also focusing on local agricultural products, allowing runners not only exercise and keep fit, but also enjoy the rural scenery, attend a day school to learn about cultural assets, and experience the local industry. It can be said to be a very complete and in-depth sport tourism experience. In the future, I hope this event will be extended to various Hakka villages.”

In order to boost the sports of the Hakka village, Liudui, we specially invite the former Changzhi High School student, Huang Cheng Chi, to be the honored guest of the press conference, who just won the Champion of Pole Vault event with 4.53 meter and broke the six-year record at the National Middle School Athletic Games of this year. He can be described as the light of Hakka. Therefore, he is asked to be the pacer of the Group of Happy Hakka Village in the event, hoping to encourage more Liudiu young people to pursue their dreams and not to be afraid of challenges. In order to provide better service for runners, the event planning, medical treatment, and supply of this event are based on the domestic large-scale competition. Besides, there is a "Creative Competition Project", encouraging everyone to participate dressed in Hakka costumes and accessories and get the gifts. It is hoped that the beauty of Hakka culture can be presented in a lively and diverse way.
