Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center of Hakka Affairs Council has spared no effort to promote and preserve the Hakka culture. From 2017, it has been collecting physical relics which are meaningful to Hakka through the donation of people or by purchasing and borrowing the relics from different sources. It is hoped that they can elaborate the background of the Hakka historical figures and the development context of cultural industry stories.

This year, the fourth exhibition of Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center of Hakka Affairs Council, “Meeting Hakka Collection—Pharmacy Poet - Relics Donation Exhibition of Zhang Bing”, will be held on August 16th (Friday) at the Taiwan Hakka Museum. The exhibition is focusing on Zhang Bing, whose work surpasses the languages and enjoys the good reputation as a “Pharmacy Poet”. It tells the story of his life and his concept of creation, which insists on “truth, goodness, beauty and love.” The creation of poetry is just the source of his lifetime happiness. In the exhibition, Zhang Bing’s manuscripts of poetry, newspaper clippings and data, paintings, publications, medals (cups) and old photos are displayed. Among them, there are the photos taken together with his classmates as he studied in Japan in 1942-1944, tourist scenic photos, the diaries in 1939, the design prescription manuscripts for “Kind Pharmacy” as he returned to Taiwan, sketch for the packaging design and the ten-word poems.

In order to thank Mr. Zhan and his family for their selfless dedication, a donation appreciation ceremony was also held and the certificate of appreciation is granted to the family. At the appreciation ceremony, Li Yung Te, the Minister of the Hakka Affairs Council, said that literature is an important part of Hakka. The literary masters have lived from the south to the north in the romantic Provincial Highway 3. For example, Zhong Zhao-Zheng lives in Taoyung, Wu Zhuo-Liu and Long Ying-Zong live in Hsinchu, and Li Qiao and Zhang Bing live in Miaoli. The important relics and the places where they lived have become important cultural assets. The relics of the Pharmacy Poet Zhang Bing donated by his family and the collections provided by the Taiwan Literature Data Library in Aletheia University are being displayed here and then will move to the “Zhang Bing Story Literature Library” in Zhuolan Township. It is hoped that generations of different ethnic groups can understand Hakka and Taiwan native writers and cultures through literature. In the future, Zhang Bing Story Literature Library will not just be a library, but also an important base for the development of Raoping Hakka.
