Huang Juan, the first female writer of Taiwanese saga novel, donated her life-long creations, which amounts to about 400 pieces, to the Taiwan Hakka Cultural Development Center of Hakka Affairs Council, including manuscripts, books, medals, letters, etc. On June 1st, the donation exhibition and appreciation ceremony were held at the Taiwan Hakka Museum.

Director of Taiwan Hakka Cultural Development Center of Hakka Affairs Council, Mr. Ho Chin Liang said that the literary creation energy of Ms. Huang Juan is a model worthy of learning by later generations in the literary world or the art and literature circles. She is generous to donate relevant creations and documents to enrich the Center assets; in addition, I also hope to set it as an example for people to follow. In the future, there will be more cooperation between art and cultural creators and the public sectors to jointly preserve, interpret, and manage such important assets.

It is worth mentioning that Huang Juan's work "Yangmei Trilogy," from the first "Footprints of History" in 2001, the "Chilling Cicada" in 2003 to the third "Fallen Sweet Potato" in 2005, records her three-stage lifetime in 10 years, including the Japanese rule period, martial law period, and the period in the United States. In December 1995, Huang Juan, aged 62, returned to Taiwan. Accompanied by Mr. Chung Chao-Cheng, she went back to Yangmei to conduct field investigations, visiting many local elder seniors. In her work, we can find her dedication to creation from the research of the geographical environment and current social affairs in her final work, which also helps preserve the literary materials for reference of Taiwan’s history.

Furthermore, Ms. Huang Juan has won numerous awards for her literary creations. In addition to the "Award of Lifetime Contribution to Hakka", she also wins the "Humanities Achievement Award" awarded by Taiwanese-American Foundation, “Taiwanese Writer Oxford Award", and " Literature Award of Wu San Lian Award " and so on. Her endless creative ability and inspiration come from both her delicate observation, and her reflection on the impact of Chinese and Western cultures. Therefore, from the perspective of a Hakka-American, Huang Juan deconstructs and then reproduces the group consciousness of Taiwanese Hakka people, allowing the public experience the diversity of Hakka ’s culture and the sense of memory identity, and enriching the value of the Hakka cultural heritage in Taiwan.

The Hakka Museum of Taiwan has been taking the collection, display of Hakka's main civilization, and connecting Hakka academic development as its core mission. Since its renaming in 2017 and positioning as a museum, it has started the collection of Hakka physical cultural relics on a large scale. By the end of 2018, the total number of collections had been more than 13,000 pieces. Director He Chin Liang stated that the data in the center would be no longer a temperature-free number in the storeroom through their collecting the authors’ relevant literary works, and at the same time vitalizing and using them. He hoped that viewers would expose themselves to the lifestyle that the land and its residents had left behind by reading the literal works.
