The National Environmental Research Academy (國家環境研究院) revealed the report of the 2023 Environmental Education Facilities Evaluation (環境教育設施場所評鑑) on Nov. 18. In the report, the Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park (六堆客家文化園區) ran by Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC), Hakka Affairs Council (客家委員會客家文化發展中心), was evaluated as an excellent facility. THCDC Director-General Ho Chin-liang (何金樑) expressed gratitude towards the academy and hopes that more people would visit the park to learn about the relationship between Hakka culture and sustainable environmental practices.

Since 2014, the Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park initiated environmental education programs and established 10 certified courses. Besides, the park also organized several featured cultural events to emphasize the importance of environmental care through Hakka culture, such as the Autumn Harvest Festival, outdoor camping, and firefly restoration watch. The Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park is one of the few organizations that promote environmental education through cultural transmission in the country, and it receives visits from various institutions and organizations to experience environmental education firsthand every year.

Director-General Ho said that the park produced great results due to the organization’s high self-expectations, mentioning that the park was also honored with the National Environmental Education Awards in 2020. Besides thanking the team members and volunteers, he pointed out that the park will continuously work on Hakka cultural and environmental education as the organization aims for sustainable growth.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the park managed to amplify the effect of environmental education this year, by instilling relevant information in every course and activity and passing the message through cultural experience. He added that the organization also has been looking for collaboration across different industries to further broaden the impact of their effort.

Every year, the Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park organizes the firefly restoration program for children, the Autumn Harvest Festival, the Museum Open House, the Hakka language summer camp, picnic day, and other cultural experiences for the public.
