In response to the theme of International Museum Day 2025, “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,” the Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC) launched the “Mobile Exhibitions in Liugdui Schools.” The first exhibition took place at the Long-Du Elementary School in Meinong District, Kaohsiung City, on May 7, featuring performances of Hakka theater and Hakka songs.

Director-General Ho noted that the THCDC’s Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park collaborated with 12 townships to organize the “Mobile Exhibitions in Liugdui Schools,” highlighting the values of the local ecological museum. The first exhibition, inspired by Hakka novelist Chung Li-ho (鍾理和)’s short story, was co-created with students and integrates the THCDC’s collections and past curatorial experiences. Designed specifically for children and young people, the exhibition features fun and creative displays designed to inspire interest in local history and culture. In celebration of Chung Li-ho’s 110th birthday, the exhibition also serves as a tribute to the esteemed writer. Director-General Ho expressed his gratitude to Chung Tieh-chun (鍾鐵鈞), director of the Chung Li-ho Museum, for assisting with the exhibition, as well as to the teachers and students of Long-Du Elementary School for their active participation.

A highlight of the exhibition is a striking wooden installation that allows students to turn a knob and watch a scroll-like story unfold scene by scene. Another interactive display features an audiovisual game box, where students can explore traditional Hakka clothing, proverbs, and songs through touch and play. The exhibition also includes various works created from children’s perspectives that portray Hakka life and culture, intergenerational memories, as well as common fruits and vegetables found in Hakka communities.

Hakka song performance

Principal Lin Wen-i of Long-Du Elementary School shared that the entire school—teachers and students alike—actively participated in the preparatory co-creation of the exhibition. Together, they read the story, rehearsed an all-Hakka language drama, and practiced the theme song. Under the guidance of Director Huang Hung-sung and several other directors and teachers, students across grade levels engaged in various activities such as environment observation, craft making, and walking tours, all contributing to the exhibition’s co-creative themes. Principal Lin expressed hope that more schools will join future exhibitions, helping to enrich Hakka cultural teaching materials for educational purposes.
