【THCDC Director-General Handover Ceremony 】Hsieh Sheng-hsin appointed as new THCDC Director-General

The Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC) under the Hakka Affairs Council held its Director-General handover ceremony on Jan. 16. The event was witnessed by Ku Hsiu-fei (古秀妃), Minister of the Hakka Affairs Council. During the ceremony, the outgoing THCDC Director-General Ho Chin-liang (何金樑) formally passed over the post to newly appointed Director-General Hsieh Sheng-hsin (謝勝信). The leadership transition marks a new milestone in both the development of Hakka culture and the management of the THCDC.

Ku remarked that since former Director-General Ho’s appointment in 2016, he has devoted a decade to the promotion of Hakka culture, demonstrating genuine commitment and extensive administrative experience. Going forward, Ho will serve as Director of the Language Development Department of the Hakka Affairs Council, where he aims to explore new horizons in language policy and development.

Ku also noted newly appointed Director-General Hsieh’s extensive professional background, citing his service in several government departments, including the Pingtung County Government’s Public Works Department and Water Resources Department, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture’s Irrigation Agency and Agricultural Technology Administration Park. Ku highlighted the similarities between Ho and Hsieh, particularly their strong sense of responsibility and cross-disciplinary expertise. She expressed confidence that under Hsieh’s leadership, the THCDC will develop a new vision for Hakka culture while continuing to emphasize close cooperation with local communities.

The ceremony was also attended by Chu Chien-hsing (朱建興), Counselor of the Ministry of Agriculture; Chiu Li-li (邱俐俐), Deputy Miaoli County Magistrate; Hsiao Tsong-huang (蕭宗煌), Director of the National Palace Museum; Huang Hsiang-yu (黃翔瑜), Director-General of Taiwan Historica, Academia Historica; Chiou Shang-chia (邱上嘉), President of Tainan National University of the Arts; Feng, Hsiang-yung (馮祥勇) Dean of College of Hakka Studies of National United University; Hsinchu County Councilor Cheng Chao-Chung (鄭朝鐘); Luo Chun-Lien (羅春蓮), Mayor of Nanchuang Township; Hsu Hsin-jung (徐鑫榮), Mayor of Touwu Township; and Huang Kuo-chuan (黃國釧), CPC Exploration & Production Business Division. Officials from the Hakka Affairs Council and members of the THCDC Collection Review Committee were also present.

Ho expressed his gratitude to the THCDC team members he worked with over the past decade, describing them as vital connectors between the public and Hakka culture. Meanwhile, Hsieh pledged to further strengthen the THCDC’s role in cultural preservation and to enhance its international presence, while also promoting Hakka culture as an integral part of younger generations’ everyday lives.

As the newly appointed THCDC Director-General, Hsieh thanked Minister Ku for her confidence and Ho for his contributions to the THCDC. He expressed his hope that Hakka culture will continue to flourish and expand, and affirmed his commitment to creating new connections and value so that the world may better appreciate its rich essence and enduring charm.
