In order to collect opinions from people promoting Hakka affairs and to recognize the Hakka Contribution Awards winners’ contribution and achievements in passing on the Hakka language, culture, music, drama, artistry and more, the Hakka Affairs Council held " National Hakka Conference And Hakka Contribution Award Presentation Ceremony of Year 2015" on June 29 in Liutui Hakka Cultural Park. Vice President Wu Den-Yih personally came to southern Taiwan and presided over the opening ceremony, in addition to thank everyone for the contribution made to the Hakka culture, he is also looking forward to the Hakka culture can continue to shine, leading Taiwan in becoming the center of the Hakka culture global wise.
Vice President Wu first awarded Mr. Gu Gou-Shun of the Award for Life-time Contributions to Hakka and recognize the contributions of Mr. Gu to Hakka language’s teaching and research. Wu added that Taiwan's Hakka population accounts for a quarter of the population, the Hakka culture is also an important part in Taiwan’s multiethnic culture. To promote Hakka culture, President Ma Ying-Jeou took the lead in establishing the Hakka Affairs Council during his tenure as the Mayor of Taipei City; later in his presidential term of office with the core concept of “Honor the Hakka, Flourishing the Hakka Region”, he promoted the setting of “Hakka Basic Law”, allowing the Hakka affairs budget doubled in six years, also continued on processing Hakka Heritage, constructing both north and south Hakka Cultural Park, establishing the day of the Ripped Sky Festival as the National Hakka Day, counseling Hakka industrial development through the certification mark Hakka TAIWAN and more, expecting the Hakka culture can continue to shine, leading Taiwan in becoming the center of the Hakka culture global wise.
After the ceremony, the conference was divided into four sessions each with the theme of “Global Development of Hakka Culture”, “Breaking the Barriers of Promoting Hakka Language”, “Strengthen the Industrial and Economic Development of Hakka” and "Construction of Hakka Communication Networks" for group discussions; and each reached the conclusion of strengthen the Hakka region community empowerment and combine inter-ministerial resources to promote Hakka language, use multiple tools in order to create a favorable environment for Hakka language learning, through alliances and industrialization matchmaking platform to promote the industrial development of the Hakka region, and use state-of-the-art technology and cross-media strategies to enhance the Hakka language programs’ reach.
