According to the Sanli News Network report today (February 18), Dong Foundation received from many parents’ protest that the activity "2019 Sunset Tobacco Old Days" organized by Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center of Hakka Affairs Council was not about culture but promoting smoking products. As a result, Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center has made a clarification here.

　　The experience of letting parents and children pick up tobacco leaves was designed to let the public understand the hard work of the early Hakka tobacco farmers, and there was no promotion about encouraging parents to approach any smoking products. That was definitely not true that the Dong Foundation has claimed that the government authority held such an activity to encourage parents and children to plant and close to tobacco leaves, so to ignore the health of children.

　　Luidui Hakka Cultural Park of Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center promotes the square area for environmental education, while the tobacco leaf industry was one of the important economic industries in the early Luidui Hakka area. In the early days, it brought strong economic revitalization benefits to Hakka villages. The unique Exchange Work of Hakka in the south culturally was closely related to the large amount of manpower required to grow tobacco. This activity expects to pay more attention to the Hakka traditional industry and cultural memory of human characteristics by letting more people understand the historical development of Hakka tobacco industry.

　　The park has an area of 30 hectares and smoking is completely banned. All visitors must follow the smoking ban policy and we have achieved very good results. The Center will review the advice about this activity by the Dong Foundation and will carefully evaluate the implementation and all the details of the educational activities, and will strengthen the promotion that smoking is harmful to health.
