Taiwan Hakka Museum of the Taiwan Hakka Cultural Development Center under Hakka Affairs Council sticks to the idea of integrating display content into academic research, and as such promotes the renewal of permanent exhibition almost once every 8 years. After two-year preparation before the exhibition, going through research, plan and construction stages, the grand debut was finally made in the morning of November 1st, 2019, with jubilant sound of gongs and drums played by Tian-Wu Pei-Kuan Pa-Yin Group --- an old and famous Pa-yin Group in Hsinchu . And then the subsequent performances were made by the Hakka singer Lou Sai-Rong and Maple Dance Drama Theater respectively. With the leading performances from the traditional Pa-yin to Hakka pop music and modern dance, the exhibition was kicked off officially. The ceremony was launched with opening press conference.
This exhibition is based on the pre-exhibition study on the book "Cheng Meng" as the spindle of the planning. “Cheng Meng” means the mutual respect and appreciation of the Hakka family and Taiwan society. It takes Hakka's “H” as the main image, which can be described as two people's concerted posture of “hand in hand”, hoping to express the spirit of mutual tolerance and co-created wonder in this Island. It also means “salute with joined hands”, which highlighted the theme of the display “Thanks to Hakka”. The content of the display re-defines the Hakka culture from five perspectives, “historical Hakka”, “global Hakka”, “civic Hakka”, "cultural Hakka”, and “citizen Hakka”. Hopefully, it can confirm that Hakka is an indispensable part of Taiwan’s multi-culture through this exhibition. Also, it can reveal that Taiwan nourishes Hakka culture, and Hakka enriches the universal value of Taiwan culture.
Fan Zuo-Ming, Deputy Minister of the Hakka Affairs Council, said: "This is a very meaningful thing. Although it is only a small step, it is a big step for the definition and research of the Hakka culture. The main contents of this permanent exhibition are different from those in the past on which the origin of Hakka was specially emphasized. Instead, we now focus on Hakka from various perspectives, for example, to see the formation of Hakka from the perspective of history, to understand the common traits of the global Hakka, to realize the unique civic Hakka and exquisite cultural Hakka, and the various processes of Hakka fighting for the right to define its history. I believe that people will go to treasure-trove and come away full-handed, having a new understanding of Hakka in Taiwan.
Ho Chin-Liang, director of the Taiwan Hakka Cultural Development Center, said, “It’s a great honor today to invite you, the distinguished guests, to take part in the festival together. This exhibition makes full use of the voices of Hakka, including those from domestic Hakka and overseas Hakka whose sounds are mixed with local languages and these audio files from He A-Wen in the early days. Besides there are various Hakka voices such as folk songs, Pa-yin, Hakka dramas, Hakka TV stations, Hakka radio stations, and MRT broadcast. All above demonstrate the multi- culture of Hakka. At the same time, it also fully displays the result of collections and the related Hakka research in the Center over the years, and integrates valuable historical documents from public and private units and individuals from all walks of life, which all enriches this permanent exhibition. We will gradually add new contents every year and continuously improve the exhibition and collection. Thank you again for your presence and participation. It is hoped that the opening ceremony of the Permanent Exhibition in the Taiwan Hakka Museum is successful, and the precious collection and memories can be shared with all the guests.
The Center sincerely invites everyone to come and appreciate the Hakka cultural exhibition, which is different from other Hakka cultural exhibitions in the past, and welcome everyone to search for related information on the Taiwan Hakka Cultural Museum fan group (https://zh-tw.facebook.com/hakkapark/).
