To preserve old images of the Liudui region, which refers to Hakka settlements in southern Taiwan, the Liudui Hakka Cultural Park of Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC) launched an activity to collect old photographs of Liudui. Those who possess old photos related to Liudui’s history can participate in the activity by submitting these pictures, which might have an opportunity to be exhibited at the cultural park. The submission deadline is Nov. 30, 2021.

THCDC Director-General Ho Chin-liang (何金樑) said this year marks the 300th anniversary of the founding of Liudui Hakka settlements. Before holding a special exhibition on the images of Hakka villages in Liudui, the cultural park is trying to gather old photographs scattered around the Hakka region so as to perpetuate the precious images of the past Liudui, Ho said. He added that these collected pictures will be preserved in the digital form and displayed at physical and virtual exhibitions to enable more people to learn about the history of Liudui.

According to THCDC, to evoke local residents’ nostalgic memories and feelings for Liudui, the targeted photos, whether color or black-and-white, shall be taken before the year of 2000 and their theme focused on the life of Hakka villagers in Liudui. Participants should specify the shooting date, location, and related background of the picture with a descriptive paragraph in 50-100 words.

To encourage the public to sign up for the activity, THCDC said the first 300 participants will receive a special gift from the event organizer.
