he Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC) of the Hakka Affairs Council (HAC) held an appreciation ceremony for cultural relics donation and a celebration for the 13th anniversary of the Taiwan Hakka Museum. The event was themed “Gathering Blessings from Red Rice Cakes,” symbolizing the Hakka cultural spirit of reunion and sharing. The celebration began with a performance by the world champion Jianguo Elementary School Choir (建國國小合唱團), followed by several special “birthday gifts” presented by invited organizations. These included a donation of Hakka cultural relics from the Shangrila Paradise Theme Park, Taiwanese native plant aiyu seedlings from the Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, and co-branded Hakka bento boxes from the Taiwan Railway Corporation.

The event was attended by HAC Deputy Minister Fan Tso-ming (范佐銘), Miaoli County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin (鍾東錦), CMP Group (勤美集團) President Mai Sheng-wei (麥聖偉) and Vice President Jonas Ho (何承育), Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters (雪霸國家公園管理處) Deputy Director Hsu Chia-hsiang (許嘉祥), CPC Corporation (中油股份有限公司) Deputy CEO Tang Chu-cheng (湯珠正), Taiwan Railway Corporation Director Ku Shih-yen (古時彥), and other distinguished guests.

The most striking birthday gift for the museum was the donation of over 400 Hakka cultural relics from CMP Group’s Shangrila Paradise Theme Park, which became the first large-scale donation of cultural assets by a private enterprise. To revitalize these relics—collected from Hakka regions by Chen Da-ming (陳達明), who was commissioned by Shangrila Paradise in 1989—THCDC partnered with the CMP Group to launch a special exhibition. These historical objects, displayed at Shangrila Paradise over the past 36 years, now offer the public a glimpse into the daily lives of ordinary people in Hakka villages and the beauty of Hakka culture.

The second birthday gift was a creative and flavorful bento box, which marked a groundbreaking collaboration between THCDC and the Taiwan Railway Corporation. This limited-edition bento box offers a unique culinary experience, with each dish inspired by the traditional Hakka flavors, evoking cherished memories and offering a cultural journey through taste. The culinary creation adds warmth and fragrance to the anniversary celebration of the Taiwan Hakka Museum.

The bento box will be available for a limited time from May 12 to 19 in celebration of the museum’s anniversary and International Museum Day. Priced at NT$150, 100 bentos will be sold daily at Taiwan Railways' Taichung, Changhua, and Hsinchu Stations, and at the Taiwan High Speed Rail Xinwuri Station. As trains glide into the stations, travelers can savor the rich and hearty flavors of Hakka cuisine.

The third birthday gift, presented by the Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, was native plant aiyu seedlings. These will be planted on museum grounds as a symbol of the integration of culture and ecology. In the future, the THCDC plans to incorporate aiyu cultivation into its environmental education programs, helping visitors understand both plant ecology and the Hakka philosophy of symbiosis with nature. This initiative aims to create an engaging and educational experiential learning environment that aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 15 (SDG15), which focuses on protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems while ensuring the preservation of biodiversity.

Ho added, in the future, the Center will continue to strengthen the collaboration with international museums and work closely with domestic cultural institutions and local government agencies.
