The Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC) of the Hakka Affairs Council hosted a road-running event on April 18 at the Taiwan Hakka Museum in Miaoli County, offering 21 km, 11 km, and 6 km courses that let participants take in the scenic Hakka settlements and tung blossoms.

The event was jointly inaugurated by THCDC Director-General Hsieh Sheng-hsin (謝勝信), Miaoli County Deputy Magistrate Lai Hsiang-ling (賴香伶), Miaoli County Culture and Tourism Bureau Deputy Director Hsu Chien-nan (徐建男), Shei-pa National Park Headquarters Director Lin Wen-he (林文和), National United University Chief Secretary Tsai Feng-jen (蔡豐任), Tri-mountain National Scenic Area Director Wu Wen-hsiung (吳文雄), CPC Corporation Deputy Executive Director Tang Chu-cheng (湯珠正), and Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station Director Shih Chia-hung (施佳宏) with Deputy Director Chung Kuo-hsiung (鍾國雄).

Director‑General Hsieh said the event started at the Taiwan Hakka Museum and routed runners through Tongluo and Tongxiao townships and across the Jiuhuashan Skywalk, offering views of tea plantations, the coastal shoreline, and seasonal tung blossoms. The event incorporated Hakka cultural elements into medal and prize designs by drawing on the THCDC’s extensive collection to showcase Hakka history and heritage. Looking ahead, the THCDC will continue staging events that promote Hakka culture, education, and sustainability.

The event highlighted the museum and nearby Hakka villages, inviting participants to explore the settlements while offering practical prizes that incorporate Hakka motifs. The event T‑shirt used sustainable seawool fabric made from clam shells, and only reusable cups were provided to raise environmental awareness. A cultural market at the museum featured the CPC Corporation Exploration and Production Division, Shei‑pa National Park Headquarters, Genesis Social Welfare Foundation, and the Miaoli County Shenghui Advancement Association to promote cultural equity, Hakka industries, and education. By connecting local communities and the natural environment, the event encouraged the public to appreciate the beauty and warmth of Hakka villages.

The THCDC invites the public to visit the Taiwan Hakka Museum during tung blossom season, which runs through early May. To mark International Museum Day, the THCDC will hold a “Museum Correspondent Camp” on May 17, inviting children to learn about museum operations and traditional culture.
