The Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC) of the Hakka Affairs Council and the Tainan National University of the Arts (TNNUA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 9, establishing a new partnership focused on exchange in culture, art, museum studies, and research. Through a variety of initiatives, including academic research, collections, exhibitions, and educational programs, the THCDC and TNNUA aim to create a new platform for knowledge dissemination and public service.

This collaboration not only bridges practical applications with academic inquiry but also serves as a pivotal opportunity to promote Taiwan’s multiculturalism alongside its unique Hakka culture. In 2014, THCDC received photography and other works by local photographer Li Hsiu-yun (李秀雲), donated by his family. The preservation of these items—including films, diaries, personal belongings, books, letters, postcards, and certificates—was supported by TNNUA experts in museology and film art. The development of physical archives has greatly benefited from TNNUA’s contributions in storage management, artifact categorization, collection practices, staff training, and research methodologies.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by THCDC Director-General Ho Chin-liang (何金樑), TNNUA President Chiou Shang-chia (邱上嘉), Hakka Affairs Council members Liu Shih-tsai (劉仕彩) and Huang Chi-jen (黃啟仁), along with other distinguished guests.

Director-General Ho expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting its role in showcasing Hakka culture through academic research and elevating Taiwanese Hakka museums to unprecedented heights. He also acknowledged the contributions of numerous academicians, researchers, and museum experts in developing diverse Hakka museum exhibits.

He added that the MoU symbolizes both parties’ full commitment to promoting and practicing Hakka culture, and he hopes the partnership will expand to include collaborations with other public and private institutions, as well as international cultural organizations. Such alliances are essential for preserving local Hakka cultural memory while simultaneously building a model of cultural collaboration that combines local depth with international vision.
