A series of events will be held at the Pingtung-based Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park from Feb. 1 to 6 and Feb. 12 to 13 to welcome the Year of the Tiger.
At the press conference hosted by the Hakka Culture Development Center, Director Ho Chin-liang (何金樑) of the Center unveiled the events and offered blessings through a paper-cutting art-inspired ritual to wish everyone health, peace, and prosperity in the coming new year.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, a wide range of traditional performances will be presented every day, such as lion and dragon dance, ritual for welcoming the God of Wealth, semi-Beijing opera, and acrobat, said Director Ho.
Hakka singers, including Golden Melody Awards winner Wing Lo (羅文裕), Golden Bell Awards winner Kang Lei (康雷), Jenny Peng (彭佳霓), Chiu Shu-chan (邱淑蟬), Huang Wei-jie (黃瑋傑), Fang Ning (方寧), and Li Yan-feng (李彥鋒), as well as Tang-tsai Dance Troupe (唐采舞蹈團) and Jin Yu Yuan Puppet Troupe (金宇園掌中劇團), will perform to celebrate the new year, added Ho.
A variety of activities will also be organized at Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park to present Lunar New Year celebration in Hakka style, such as making traditional oil paper umbrellas and betel nut palm hand fans.
At workshops, participants can use flowers taken from the park’s garden to make stacked flowers on plates, and offer the plates to Hakka deity – a way that expresses the Hakka people’s spirit of obtaining, respecting, and cherishing local materials.
In addition to DIY activity, there will be themed exhibitions that showcase the diverse cultural landscapes of Liugdui Hakka settlements through video art, photography, and virtual reality.
Another event highlight is charity sale, which has been held for the sixth consecutive year to help the disadvantaged groups.
