Aimed at enabling youths to become closer to their Hakka roots and to be engaged in Hakka affairs so that they show care for local culture and contribute to society, the Hakka Affairs Council held the inaugural "Hakka Youth Volunteer Corps 'Project Dandelion'" in 2015. 100 youth volunteers from all over Taiwan gathered to participate in this 3-day program and the event came to a successful closure on 14 June. Liu Ching-chung, Minister of the Hakka Affairs Council specially visited the Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center in Miaoli to share the experiences of event participants, where he expressed his wishes for all participants to be like the dandelion, helping others, society and the Hakka community while bettering themselves. The Hakka Affairs Council said that, although this is the first time "Project Dandelion" was held, it has garnered much support and positive responses from all walks of society. Besides basing the course on proposals submitted by all the groups who applied to participate, specialists were invited to conduct volunteer training, including having more Hakka experts share their experiences and bringing youths to see Hakka farmsteads. Through empowerment training, the course hopes to strengthen the core unity of the team and spark the creativity and implementation capacity of participants, so that they can sustain the continuity of Hakka culture
