To preserve the local Hakka lifestyle and to energize the property development in Fenglin Township, Hualien, the Hakka Affairs Council has been subsidizing key local cultural history and production organizations in efforts to create a conducive living environment, while working to promote the integration of local Hakka cultural resources and specialty trades and industries. On his special visit to Fenglin Township on 22 May to see the results of the aforementioned efforts, he hopes to promote the development of Hualien's Hakka farmsteads through the joint efforts of various industries, cross-regional integration and environment re-creation etc.
The Hakka Affairs Council said that 70% of Fenglin's population is made up of Hakkas, making it a typical back-mountain Hakka farmstead settlement. In order to preserve local Hakka lifestyle and aid commercial development, the Hakka Affairs Council has been subsidizing the " Fenglin Hakka Museum" and the "Chung Hwa Market" etc., in accordance with surrounding related resources, to establish a key platform responsible for the development of Fenglin area's specialty merchandise and promotion of cultural history work. In future, collaboration with local authorities and community groups will take place, enabling the continued development of eastern Taiwan's Hakka culture.
