【Taiwan Hall Activity】Dr. Anthony Seeger, the Distinguished Honorary Professor in Department of Ethnomusicology in University of California, Los Angeles, USA,_visits Taiwan Hakka Museum.

Dr. Anthony Seeger has long dedicated to the issues of Brazilian Indians’ human rights and tradition for many years. He also plays an important role in the professional researches, such as the archives and intellectual property rights, intangible heritages and ethnology theories and methods. He is currently a senior researcher and honorary curator of Folklife and Cultural Heritage of The Smithsonian Center. Besides, he is the honorary director of world-famous music record company, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. He is also a distinguished Honorary Professor in Department of Ethnomusicology in University of California, Los Angeles, USA.

 

The Graduate Institute of Ethnomusicology of National Taiwan Normal University invited Dr. Anthony Seeger to visit Taiwan for a month this April and he gave five keynote speeches in National Taiwan Normal University. Today (April 27th). Accompanied by Hsin-Wen Hsu, Assistant Professor of National Taiwan Normal University, and Professor Shih-Hsin Huang, the vocalist, Dr. Anthony Seeger visited the Taiwan Hakka Museum, sharing this related experiences in cultural assets, folk music and museum archives. During the exchange process, Dr. Anthony Seeger also understood how Hakka Affairs Council and Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center puts the emphasis on Hakka cultural assets, policy implementations and methods of its preservation, including Hakka village cultural heritage surveys, village history, worship the ancestors, gender issues, folk rituals, oral history. They also shared the cultural relics, audiovisual archives and the collection of the Library and Information Center. Taiwan Hakka Museum benefits a lot from the talk with Dr. Anthony Seeger today, hoping to have more exchanges and cooperation with Dr. Anthony Seeger in the future.
