Fun Journey Across the World Picnic Party

In response to the theme of ‘Ending Plastics Pollution!’ of Earth Day 2018, the Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center and Department of Environmental Protection, Miaoli County Government hosted the ‘Earth Day~ Fun Journey Across the World Picnic Party’ environmental education activity on April 20th, 2018 (Friday) at the Taiwan Hakka Museum, Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center, Hakka Affairs Council, attracting the participating of a total of 218 adults and children. Jin-Liang, He, director of the Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center and deputy magistrate of Miaoli County, Gui-ju, Deng joined the public for a game of ‘Hakka Word of Hundreds’. The group chanted the phrase ‘come picnic with us, enjoy plastic reduced new lifestyle’, thereby opening the activity and encouraging all to cherish the world’s resources, protect our only Earth together. Today’s event was held in the ‘Taiwan Hakka Museum’, a place where preserves environmental education facilities under Hakka culture. In addition to conveying the spirit of Hakka ancestors to cherish what we have, the event also introduced all to the theme of Earth Day through a series of intriguing experience activities. First, we added vitality aerobic activity to traditional Hakka rhythms, letting participants sway by the melodious rhythm on grasslands, bringing liveliness to the event; followed by games such as ‘picnic layout competition’, ‘land game’ and ‘grassland music feast’ for participants to learn about environmental protection knowledge in the real natural environment, while enjoying the fun of picnics, games and music; lastly, the group followed picnic food experts to learn how to use seasonal ingredients in cooking, thereby learning about the concept of food miles, healthy eating, love for the Earth while enjoying the mouthwatering delicacies, responding to low-carbon diet living! Jin-Liang, He, director of the Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center stated that the Center is thrilled to be combining the theme of ‘Ending Plastics Pollution!’ of Earth Day with Hakka spirits. Through today’s activities, it is hoped that we have successfully conveyed concepts such as carbon-reducing lifestyle, energy saving and carbon reduction, healthy eating and farming education to more people, thereby encouraging more to join in the league for earth protection, valuing and protecting the environment we live in by action; Director He also invited all to participate in the ‘green lunch banquet’ activity hosted by the Taiwan Hakka Museum on May 5th. The activity is a combination of the experiences of lunch banquet, quintet music performance, green farmer market and Hakka games of gyros, giving people a chance to enjoy freshly delivered ingredients and Hakka Panzhuang tea, while listening to the sharing of small farmers.
