The Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC) hosted the 2025 Liugdui Lunar New Year Celebration at Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park on Jan. 17, featuring the internationally acclaimed Chuan Lung Martial Arts Group (傳龍武學) in a captivating Hakka lion dance performance. THCDC announced a series of events spanning the first to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, including ten highlights such as cultural performances, commemorative gifts, Hakka handicrafts, interactive games, stamp collection activities, and traditional Hakka cuisine, inviting the public to celebrate the festive season together.
THCDC Director-General Ho Chin-liang, Pingtung County Government Hakka Affairs Department Director Li Ming-tsung (李明宗), Indigenous Peoples Cultural Development Center Deputy Director Chien Ming-hsiung (簡明雄), and other distinguished guests attended the event.
Director-General Ho emphasized that, with its strategic location and expansive grounds, Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park has designed a series of themed events during the Lunar New Year, bringing the public closer to Hakka villages and traditions. He also encouraged visitors to bring their families and enjoy the scenic landscapes of the region.
Running from the first to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, the celebration will feature 18 family-friendly outdoor performances, including Hakka music bands Gina’s Can (吉那罐子) and Tongwentsen Duet (彤溫岑二重唱), the Pingtung Hakka Music and Dance Troupe (屏東客家樂舞團), as well as circus and theater performances.
Additionally, the highly popular handicraft workshops invite participants of all ages to create prayer flowers, plant-pounded dye bags, and lion head decorations. THCDC has also organized limited-time activities, including charity events and Hakka culinary experiences. Visitors can further engage in a stamp-collecting challenge, and those who complete designated tasks are eligible to enter a lucky draw. The winners will be announced in the afternoon of Feb. 2.
THCDC also highlighted that the flower season coincides with the Lunar New Year holiday, offering a breathtaking display of blooming flowers. The park’s market, set against a backdrop of traditional tobacco barns and Liugdui’s agricultural produce, provides the perfect space for families to stroll, explore, and immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere.
The 2025 Liugdui Lunar New Year Celebration warmly welcomes visitors from across the country to Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park to experience the rich traditions of a Hakka New Year. For more event details, please visit the Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park website and official Facebook page.
